Dan Rees
Executive Producer
Before joining Wildstar Films in 2018, Dan worked on a wide range of award-winning programmes during a 20 year career at the BBC Natural History Unit; including Frozen Planet, Animals With Cameras and Wild Arabia. Since joining Wildstar he has worked as show runner and executive producer on America The Beautiful and America’s National Parks for National Geographic and Disney+. Currently, he is executive producing Underdogs, a joint venture with Ryan Reynolds’ company Maximum Effort which aims to appeal to new audiences by taking an unconventional approach to wildlife filmmaking.
Dan also has a passion for impact filmmaking and has made films for international NGO’s, from Nepal to Nicaragua. In addition, he spent time as the technology strategist for the BBC NHU, where he was able to push the genre further through new and innovative technology. Sadly, he has yet to be selected for the Liverpool FC first team, though he lives in hope.
Dan’s work has won many awards, including:
Primetime Emmy, Best Non-Fiction Series (Frozen Planet)
BAFTA, Special Award (Springwatch)
Sapphire Award, International Wildlife Film Festival (Frozen Planet: On Thin Ice)
Best Nature Film, Shanghai International Television Festival (Ganges: Waterland)
Best Natural History Programme, Royal Television Society West (Wild Arabia: Sands Of Change)
